Invited Lecture on “The Politics of Protest in the Digital Age”
2026, ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 10The Department of Political Science and the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication of EMEA College of Arts & Science, Kondotty, in association with the Debate Club, organised an insightful Invited Lecture on “The Politics of Protest in the Digital Age” on Monday, 10 August 2026, at 10:00 AM at the AVT Hall, EMEA College.
The session was led by Abhilash Mohanan, Deputy Editor, Mathrubhumi News, who shared valuable insights into the changing nature of political protest in the digital era. The lecture explored how social media, online campaigns and digital communication have transformed the ways in which people organise, express dissent and demand social and political change.
The speaker also highlighted the growing influence of digital platforms in amplifying public voices and shaping protest movements, while drawing attention to critical concerns such as misinformation, surveillance, censorship and the future of democratic participation.
The programme provided students with an engaging opportunity to understand the intersection of politics, journalism, digital media and democracy, encouraging them to critically examine the evolving role of technology in contemporary society.
