The Postgraduate Department of Microbiology started with the aim for the upliftment of the individuals of the rural through scientific enlightening.  The department was started in 1999 with B.Sc  Microbiology course.   Since 2002, it also offers the master's course in Microbiology.  At present, the department has seven well qualified and dedicated faculties.  Our faculty teach a wide portfolio of Microbiology courses at the postgraduate and graduate levels.  Total intake capacity of the UG and PG programs is 38 and 13 respectively. The alumni of the department now occupy positions of great responsibility in different institutions in India and abroad. At present,  Dr.Shiji Thomas is the head  of the Department.  The water potability test centre working under department of microbiology aims to extend the possibilities of microbiology to society.
Microbiology course at EMEA offers a unique opportunity for students to bring out their scientific, analytical and problem-solving skills. The program teaches the students about the function, structure, uses and existence of microscopic organisms. Microbiology overlaps the various other degree areas of biology like molecular biology, genetics & immunology. The program exposes students to various fields such as pharmacy, medicine, clinical research, agriculture, dairy industry, water industry, nanotechnology & chemical technology. Workshops and field trips are included in the program to update students to latest trends and techniques in the field. The Department of Microbiology is built around its dynamic faculty who teach a wide portfolio of microbiology courses at the graduate and post graduate levels. They are helpful and encourage their students to do projects and participate in extracurricular activities. Department laboratory act as flexible frame work, holding dynamic students work group in various research zones.
