A Survey on the Economic Consequences of Structural Failures in NH 66

The PG and Research Department of Economics, EMEA College of Arts and Science, Kondotty, organized an Extension Programme titled “Assessing the Economic Consequences of Structural Failures in the Newly Built National Highway 66 in Kerala” on 13th October 2025 (Monday) at the NH 66 neighbourhood.

The programme aimed to provide students with practical exposure to real-world economic issues by analysing the impact of recent structural failures observed in sections of the newly constructed National Highway 66. The survey focused on understanding the economic disruptions faced by local communities, businesses, and commuters due to these failures.

The extension activity was coordinated by Dr. Ibrahim Cholakkal, Teacher Coordinator, and Mr. Mufeeb K. T., Student Coordinator and internship student from the Department of Economics, Central University of Tamil Nadu.

Through on-field data collection and interactions with affected stakeholders, the students gained valuable insights into the intersection of infrastructure development and economic sustainability. The initiative successfully bridged theoretical learning with socio-economic realities, reinforcing the department’s commitment to experiential learning and community engagement.
